Bringing the excitement of Hollywood to Shanghai, Red Gate successfully produced an exciting and memorable opening ceremony that officially launched the Shanghai Vancouver Film School (SHVFS), a project aimed at moving Shanghai into a leading role as Asia’s center of film and entertainment production.
Showcasing superior cameras and filming technology, Red Gate broadcasted the flashy event live on grand, 3-story tall LCD screen towers that spread the length of the stage. As the exclusive event organizer, Red Gate also created the elaborate staging that featured decorated elements of a film studio and arranged for a glamorous VIP “Red Carpet” entrance and photo-op to kick off the ceremony.
At the event, an international crowd of several hundred guests joined with senior leaders of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the Canadian Consulate General in Shanghai, senior university officials, students and luminaries from the local and North American film industry. A number of local television and media outlets also were on hand to capture all the action.
With the start of classes in fall 2014, SHVFS offers aspiring film students courses in four program areas: Film Production, Sound Design for Visual Media, Animation & Visual Effects, and Makeup Design for Film & Television. The school is set on the Yanchang Campus of Shanghai University, and school officials anticipate initial enrollment to reach 100 students.
As a joint partnership and operation between Vancouver Film School and Shanghai University SHVFS, the new film school was established by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film & TV, the Administration of Zhabei District, Shanghai and Shanghai University.
The opening ceremony was held on September 29 in a facility on the grounds of Shanghai University’s Yangchang Campus in Zhabei District.
